Office History

The practice was opened in 1972 by Dr. Jack Horbal's parents, Drs. Aldona and Benjamin Horbal. Both Dr. Aldona and Dr.
Benjamin received their dental training in Poland prior to their coming to the US in 1964. Once here Dr. Aldona was required to
repeat 3 years of dental school in order to obtain her United States dental license, as the government was not accepting foreign
degrees at that time. After graduating from the Northwestern University College of Dentistry, Dr. Aldona opened an office in Des
Plaines, IL, across the street from Lutheran General Hospital. During that time, Dr. Benjamin obtained a faculty position at
Northwestern, eventually becoming a Professor of Oral Surgery. Shortly thereafter, the laws changed and Dr. Benjamin was
allowed to take the licensure examination based on his credentials.

Dr. Aldona relocated her office to its present location in the fall of 1972 after construction was completed on the Malibu East
building and its adjoining commercial space. Dr. Aldona practiced general dentistry while Dr. Benjamin continued to teach at the
University during the day and saw oral surgery patients at the office in the evening. Dr. Jack Horbal joined his parents' in 1981
and practiced with them until 1986 when Drs. Aldona and Benjamin retired. Dr. Jack Horbal welcomed his daughter, Dr. Kerstin
Horbal, to the office in 2009, as the third generation to practice at the location. They work well together because they share the
same enthusiasm for treating and serving patients.

Mission Statement

Since our doors opened we have served the Edgewater community by providing general dental care to people of all ages. We
take pride in delivering excellent care in an enthusiastic, pleasant, cheerful, and courteous atmosphere. We are respectful of
your time and do our best to be punctual. If you have an emergency, we are able to see you promptly. We are also mindful of the
high costs of dental care and try to present alternatives, as well as conservative treatment plans.
